Abstracts: More than ever, Design today has grown stronger and faster than ever before
in many countries around the world. Design changes every day, every hour physical products
and goods to meet the multi-faceted needs of people living in modern living environment.
If Design is said to be creative, it must be understood the position and working way to
understand the creative way. Design creative art is different from scientific creations. Only
through the work of our predecessors and our evaluation can we see beauty. It can be said
that Design is an indispensable part of society, elevating life according to the development of
human society. The purpose of this article is to mention and make some comments about the
importance of design, characteristics of the design and finally the required characteristics of
design products to contain and express the eternal of beauty in modern society.
Keywords: Design, importance, characteristics, design products.
1. The importance of Design in life
to the mutual support for Design
creativity. Research Design refers to the
relationship of people with nature and
society, expressed in production, as well
as in activities of playing, enjoying and
enjoying material products of cultural
value. The function and purpose of Design
are to satisfy the physiological psychology
of users, that is, it contains aesthetic and
usable values, suitable for all subjects and
suitable for economic value.
Design itself has a meaning that
reflects the soul, material and spiritual
values of a nation. If the British were always
proud of having red public phone cabins, the
Germans had Braun household appliances,
the French had the Le Creuset pot, ect… .
Each of these products is seen as
a unique image of each country and is
known worldwide. So in the most general
sense, the word Design never represents
something luxurious but covers all areas
of everyday life: from product shaping to
exploring and using the right materials.
The products of applied art are very
diverse and plentiful, with many types of
products and have great value for the daily
life of humans, serving people, satisfying
both material needs and the human spirit.
The rapid development of modern
science and technology also contributes

Design is culture - culture to life
Satisfaction of material and spiritual needs
must be consistent with the cultural identity
and aesthetic tastes of each ethnic group
and community. The world of human-made
objects is closely linked to the production
environment and daily life of people. The
most basic thing about Design is focusing
on meeting the needs of society. Its presence
is found in all aspects of human life such
as: eating, dressing, living, in daily life,
studying, producing, in production means
and tools, labor, entertainment... From
products to packaging, to information
technology products containing high
intellectual value, all of which bear the
stamp of Design.
Culture is all the creative activities
and values of the people of a country
and a people in terms of material and
spiritual production in the cause of
national construction and defense. Unesco
general director Federico Zaragoza† said:
“Culture includes everything that makes
one nation different from the other, from
the most sophisticated products to beliefs,
customs, customs, lifestyles and labor.”.
Thus, culture according to Taylor (world
famous culture researcher): “Culture or
civilization is a complex whole consisting
of intellectuals, artistic beliefs, ethics,
laws, customs, and any other competencies
and habits that people need as a member.
society. About the past three centuries, not
only does the concept of culture and arts
appear, but it also addresses the needs
of individual communities including
economics, science and technology.” In
short, culture is the whole thing through
which a people manifests itself and
identifies itself and is the place that best
realizes the national spirit.
2. Characteristic of Design
Product Design is an innovative
and useful and aesthetic value contained
in a product. A Design product must
not only stop at achieving high value in
functionality, ergonomics, ecology but
must also include social, cultural and
reflective aesthetic values, reflecting
qualifications and technical development.
technology of the community. All of these
valuesare closely united in one whole,
meeting the needs of social life. From
creating designs to producing products
for consumers is a cycle of using value,
economic value, aesthetic cultural value
according to the mechanism of supply and
demand. And that mechanism is a problem
that has always been raised in society,
for any kind of applied art product. And
indeed they have become the basis and
motivation for Design to develop and
develop continuously....
Design sometimes changes the life
of an area. Italy was born Babetta car and
became the style of Italy. The US is shaped
through design and design as a part of life.
Japan has created the Japanese color theory,
organizing shops in Japanese style....
Design was born very early. Since
ancient times, humans have an instinct to
lovebeauty,andinverydifficultconditions,
it was possible to create art in caves,
with drawings from the first perceptions,
to the natural and wild objects. Today,

Design has strongly developed into the
modern civilized life of society, meeting
the indispensable basic needs, not only
for human existence but also to ensure a
higher and more developed life.
material world created by man. In fact, it is
easy to realize that without the participation
of aesthetic values, in the world of objects
associated with our lives, there will be
hard, unsightly objects and so on. Human
development as well as social development
will not be possible in terms of aesthetic
culture as well as scientific understanding.
And on the other hand, by bringing beauty
to social life, Design has been operating
creatively to create a physical environment
that is both harmonious and correlated
to satisfy the needs of the most. material
and spiritual bridges of the people. It is
closely linked to the cultural and civilized
development of the community, a nation
or a nation. Design has a long tradition
and made history from antique to needle.
Because Design is used as a necessity in
all of the following areas: construction
architecture, consumer production, interior
and exterior environment, industrial
machinery styling, advertising, press mass
media, arts and culture such as theater,
cinema,photography...display,installation,
handicrafts (carpentry, painting, stone
carving, bronze casting, statues, reliefs ),
festive decorations, costumes, festivals,
etc. Design is on track to develop new
steps to fit the times. Design’s role is
broader. It is a form of establishing and
creating sustainability for the foundation
of our material and spiritual life. It is no
longer just an activity within the scope of
handicrafts but has developed in all areas
of social life
Early design products of Vietnam
were discovered as stone jewelry, shells,
wood pieces, bamboo pieces ... Many
archaeologists have found stone jewelry,
pearl shells, shells ... thousands of years
ago. These are the earrings, earrings that the
ancients had trimmed, manipulated, shaped
from stone, horns, animal teeth to beautify
people. In the bronze period, people created
copper jewelry such as earrings, necklaces,
bracelets ... All of them were considered
the first Design products.
The history of human and social
development is a long history. Right
from the centuries BC, through the
cultural vestiges of many discoveries and
discoveries of researchers, archaeologists
in the world and in Vietnam have made
clear the countless artifacts in the
field. Design has existed for centuries
everywhere, especiallyinthemajorcenters
of civilization of the world. Through the
ancient architectural works of Egypt,
Greece, ancient Rome, China,Africa, even
in Vietnam, applied art products were also
found traces through the utensils, widgets
of ancient Vietnamese people.
It can be said that Design is the type
of process of formation and development.
The development of Design is associated
with the creative labor process of people.
Design is the art of combining the real
and beauty, between the durable and the
beauty. Design is the sum total of many
disciplines: both science and technology,
process technology, manufacturing and
engineering. Its aesthetic value not only
beautifies life, but also beautifies the
Currently, the issue of bringing
beauty into the spiritual, material and
cultural life of society is very active.
It is not easy to formulate the aesthetic
planning, but in fact the history of the
country, his father has done so. Just for

to be associated with the construction
of a cultural environment and social

of economy and culture will stimulate the
creative potential of each nation. And in
the development process, Design as an
integral part of the culture has actively and
effectively participated in this process.

So far divided into literature and art.
Aristoteles‡ wrote a poem, distinguishing
an art form with a particular language. In
the18thcentury, Hegel§ inhiscosmetology
book(thegreatGermanthinker)hedevoted
a great chapter to writing about the arts.
There was no industrial art at that time.
Industrial art is in Kagant’s book “Forms
of art”, which he divided into arts such
as Mendeleep’s periodic table, including
visual arts including architecture,
sculpture, painting, and craft handmade.
In everyday life the energy consumed in
the eye is greater than all. In this field,
they need to mention the issue of beauty,
beauty is the basic category of American

In addition to the science and
technology, the aesthetic value of Design
in this respect has helped build the
Vietnamese people of patriotism and
love for the beauty created by human
hands, making up self-reliance, not being
dependent on or imitating anyone but still
expressing the spirit of culture and art
imbued with national identity.
For development, we all know
that the sustainable development of
each country requires economic growth

fields such as physics, metaphysics, poetry, drama, music, logic, rhetoric, linguistics, economics,
politics, ethics, biology, and zoology.

terms of use and affection through attitude.
Designers want their designs to be accepted
by consumers, the designer must understand
who is the consumer of his product
(psychology, gender, age, occupation,
consumption habits, special culture points
...) to design accordingly. On the one hand,
the designer must study the product that he
designed in terms of utilities: research on
utilities is the study to bring the best value
for the use of the design.
Second, we consider environmental
protection products that reflect the level of
human cognitive thinking. We can analyze
and consider any design product of
Design also reflects the level of cognitive
thinking of society, of the times. Looking
at the appearance of a series of tables
and chairs, which are interior handicrafts
such as rattan, bamboo, etc., we can see
the awareness, emotional sentiment of
consumers who are aware of the aesthetic
values, characteristic of traditional
handicraft products.
In fact, according to the concept of
philosophy of culture “Culture is all the
material and spiritual values created by
man in the course of practical activities”,
the products of fine art design (FAD) are
products that contain cultural values.
Any product formed from FAD that are
valuable to the life of the community,
meeting and satisfying the needs of people
in any field from economics, politics ...
are allowed. They are considered cultural
products and have cultural and social
values. The people themselves who
participate in environmental protection
activities are considered as people who
play an important role in the creation of
aesthetic culture. When considering FAD
in relation to cultural and social activities,
we only learn and study FAD placed in
relation to social and cultural issues. In
fact, FAD always exist and have a close
relationship with many fields and aspects
of life. And to understand the valuable
role of FAD in social life most clearly, we
must learn the impact of design products
on issues in human social life.
Third, we consider whether the
FAD products bring value to enhance the
level of thinking, awareness and aesthetic
education for people or not and to what
extent. Each FAD products is a creative
result of intellectual knowledge and
indirectly through that product, it contains
the value of cognitive awareness for
consumers. A toy designed for children
is a product designed with the purpose
of educating awareness and improving
thinking skills for children. But in the
existence of so many products around the
human environment also indirectly makes
people understand the physical world and
the capabilities of the nature, the universe
and the people. Through means of
television and antenna we understand the
existence of waves in space ... Through
First, we consider FAD products that
meet the physical needs of people. When
a person recognizes and uses a product
of Design type, it means that the product
has satisfied the needs of consumers in

human nature. During the development
process, the aesthetic needs of people are
increasing, more and more diverse, which
has motivated Design to constantly develop
to meet those needs. And Design must ensure
creative tasks associated with manufacturing
and with the goal of meeting more and more
material and spiritual needs for people. This
shows that the Design activity contains in its
aesthetics, usability, economy, popularity,
education (humanities) and ethnicity
(cultural properties).
Fourthly, FAD products are a means
of communication for communication and
reflect the forms of communication with
specific social and cultural characteristics
of each ethnic group. The FAD product
itself contains special linguistic codes of
colors, shapes, lines, layouts, materials,
designs, etc. And through those
“linguistic” features. that applied art
has participated in every activity of life.
But these creative results are always of
Vietnamese cultural value because they
are created by Vietnamese people and
serve the needs of people with Vietnamese
soul and aesthetic style.
Aesthetics
“Aesthetic culture is a holistic system
that implies within it practical spiritual
capacities, especially helping people to
be able to operate according to the laws
of beauty, to perceive, evaluate and create
aesthetic values.” [Aesthetic and personality
culture - Dr. Luong Quynh Khue].
Fifth, FAD products are tools to
participate in the management of state,
community organizations and community
activities. In political and cultural
activities, FAD products are an effective
means of propaganda and information
deployment. From advertising activities to
serve the welfare of the community to the
management of state organizations ... From
economic activities to education culture
and people’s daily life. And nowadays,
information technology has developed, in
addition to common FAD products, there
are products used on media such as Internet,
television, digital cameras, electronic
signage, photo laser light ...
Aesthetics in Applied Fine Art
Design (AFA) is the aesthetic phenomena
or beauty manifested and contained in
products that bring both material values
and spiritual values. It demonstrates the
high level of synthesis and development
of sociocultural, the level of human being
in enjoying, appreciating and creating
aesthetic values. In AFA products,
aesthetics are shown in shapes, colors,
materials and useful values of the
products, in which the aforementioned
elements are harmoniously combined
to create the legitimacy of the product.
These products are created by humans to
serve the needs of people and they create
the aesthetic environment for people and
mean the aesthetic, educational, aesthetic
orientation and the people themselves.
In summary Design is an artistic
activity and art is an element of culture,
solving cultural problems and beauty
issues.
3. Design characteristics are
essential for product creation
Usefulness
Man always looks to beauty because

production physically and mentally. Often
AFAproducts always aim to satisfy people
in parallel both physically and mentally. In
terms of material, fine art products become
tools and means used for human beings
according to certain spatial purposes
and circumstances. Each means has its
own usage and manipulation methods
in life. The usefulness of AFA products
is expressed in the value of functions,
the value used to create the efficiency
of labor productivity or quality of life to
serve the needs of life. Mental aspects

and engineering boom, the product life
cycle is getting shorter and shorter, which
requires designers to be always up to date
on the techniques and technologies that
can be met and restored. service needs to
design and apply usefulness to the product.
Economical
The world of such objects continues
to change more and more as they become
commodities and participate in the flow
of economic operation: money - goods -
profits. This means that the products of
applied arts are oriented towards economic
efficiency and bring about economic
benefits when those products are created to
meet the criteria, indicators of quality and
cost of production. AFA products applied
to industrial production must bring profits
to manufacturers and many benefits to
consumers: the ability to meet the needs
of many people, lower production costs
and superiority (there are many features
on the same product, contributing to high
reproduction ...).
As we all know, a product is always
for a human purpose. The designer
therefore always puts applicability first
when designing a product. In social life,
when a product loses its applicability, it
will disappear and no longer exist in life.
For example, public telephone booths - a
typical example of British culture - have
lost their applicability today when it was
replaced by mobile phones; or as VHS
or VCD - DVD players have now been
replaced by digital audio-visual devices.
The development of smartphones has
made people gradually change their
approach to the internet. Instead of going
to computers, people are gradually using
their phones. So why do products lose their
applicability? With the development of
technology and technology, technological
trends will enable one product to integrate
the applicability of another product.
For example, a mobile phone is both a
camera and a watch, etc. This leads to
obsolete old products being taken over
by new products that incorporate product
applicability. old. The second case is the

Popularity
AFA products must always include
the following elements: beautiful,

and manufacturing life. The same type
of product, but the later generations
of products are more advanced: more
effective utility, more beautiful shape
and style. Therefore, even from ancient
times when people created an item with
useful properties and positive impact on
human life, they were quickly transferred
by humans. And nowadays when the
information revolution has brought people
closer together with the popularity of
science and technology in the period of
industrial development, the popularity of
AFA products is calculated by the hour, by
the second. We easily see, the same kind
of product but we can see them present
anywhere in the world - where people
have a need to use them.
beings, change accordingly. People in
history have applied the knowledge they
discovered to improve the world of things
to serve their own lives. And today, when
the information revolution, along with the
advent of digital technology, any product
from big to small, from big to small,
from essential or secondary products,
people can evaluate the dominant nature
and imprint of science and technology
contained in AFA products.
Educational
Man is a living being. The
qualities of each person are values
created by themselves in their own life
of growth and development with the
maturity of the qualities that he or she
has inherited from the inheritance of
previous generations. And the cultural
environment in general and the AFA
environment in particular with products
are the result of human creativity - the
“second nature” will be a factor for the
development of human personality. And
depending on the requirements of each
era, the AFA products themselves - the
artificial environment created by humans
contributes to meet the requirements
of the times. AFA stimulates the
development of human nature by the
value of beauty in the product. And from
there appear competences in humans,
bringing humanity values to oneself.
And today, with the support of
modern technology, the transfer usually
takes place in both forms: complete (intact
dissemination, usually with technology)
and transformation (dissemination of
appropriate changes suitable, usually with
consumer products). And it can be said
that popularity is the inevitable path of
AFA products.
Modernity
Each era has its own mark. The
era when looking at AFA products is
really reflected in many aspects such
as intellectual knowledge, tastes needs,
technical science, technology and
information ...
Ethnicity
Thousandsofyearsago,whenpeople
knew how to create production labor tools
and utensils for people’s daily life, they
themselves made a technical impression
in their ability. human creativity. And
according to the development of society
along with the development of human
thinking and awareness, the world of
things - the creative products of human
Ethnicity can be expressed in AFA
products. When analyzing the whole
product, one always has to consider both
sides as art and usability. In today’s modern
industrial life, it is difficult to separate its
physical sides. The thickness of traditional

example, always exudes art style (styling,

clearly showing the imprint of the era and
national aesthetics. Our fathers left fine art
in many traditional branches. The meaning
of use and the beauty are very noticeable.
In creating products, the artisans need to
find beauty on the one hand, and on the
other hand they need to pay attention to
the rationality in using products such as the
products’durability, beauty and convenience
..., all must exude the simplicity, elegance
and purity. It is screened and inherited from
generation to generation and is promoted,
developed, not completely repeated.
Therefore, when we contemplate a product,
we see the artisans’ creative spirit, labor and
affection, and that product contains the soul
of the ethnic community. It brings the ability
to evoke and delight users and to stimulate
their enjoyment of the show. The interior
and exterior of palaces, ancient architecture,
